First Minor League Card: Tobias Myers, p, Milwaukee Brewers

This is the first card of former Cleveland pitcher Tobias Myers, from the 2017 Grandstand Hudson Valley Renegades team set.

If you don’t remember the Tobias Myers-era in Cleveland, lucky you!

Tobias Myers was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 6th round of the 2016 MLB. In 2017 he was traded to Tampa Bay, where he continued to develop into a solid prospect, if not particularly exciting, prospect.

In 2022, Cleveland, needing more starting pitching depth, traded for Myers. Cleveland is known for developing pitchers, so it was a solid trade. And all it cost them was a 17-year-old lottery ticket from the low minors: Junior Caminero

Needless to say, this transaction was a disaster for the Guards.

Myers didn’t do much in the organization. He never made the majors, and later in the season was traded to the Giants for cash. Insult to injury, he would develop into a serviceable started in Milwaukee and over the last two seasons has gone 10-8 with a 3.15 ERA/132 OPS+.

And I am not even going to dwell on Junior Caminero, who has become one of the best prospects in the game. Last season he hit 45 @$@%# homeruns for the Rays, was selected to his first All-Star game, and finished ninth in MVP voting. There is something about seeing him and Yandy Diaz in the same line-up that really makes me want scream.
