From the Collection: Giancarlo Stanton, DH, New York Yankees
…
I have no idea if the Florida Marlins’ trading away Giancarlo Stanton following the 2017 season was all that terrible of a move, in retrospect.
…
Giancarlo Stanton was an amazing player with the Marlins. Over eight seasons, he had a 147 OPS+, hitting on average 33 HR a season. He was a four-time all-star and the 2017 National League MVP. He also played, on average, 123 games a season. He was easily one of the most dominant players in franchise history.
…
With the Yankees, Stanton has still been good. The issue is that he struggles to stay healthy, and over his eight seasons in New York, he has only averaged 92 games a season. He is still a good hitter and has had a 124 OPS+, but still. For what New York is paying–like 25 million a year–it’s a steep price for a player who can only DH and rarely gets a full season’s worth of at-bats.
