No matter what level you are pitching at, a perfect game is an accomplishment.

On May 21st, 2009, Jeanmar Gomez, pitching for Cleveland’s Double-A Akron team, tossed a perfect game against the Trenton Thunder. It was the third no-hitter in Akron’s history.

At the time, he was one of the hottest pitchers in the organization. His AA numbers were eye-popping, going 4-0 with a 0.31 ERA.

The perfect game put Gomez on the prospect map, and he would make his major league debut the next season with Cleveland. But he would struggle at the major league level. He would have a couple of decent seasons pitching out of the Pirates’ pen from 2013-2015, but would never really have any sustained success.

He would retire following his 2019 season in Texas. He left the game with a career 28-30 record, with a 4.51 ERA/87 ERA+.
