Cleveland last won a World Series in 1948. They had a well-rounded team, including a fantastic bullpen. Ed Klieman was one of the best of that group.

In 1943, Ed Klieman went 23-11 with a 2.84 ERA with Cleveland’s International League affiliate in Baltimore, earning him a call-up to the big leagues. It was his seventh season in pro ball.

Klieman won 11 games for Cleveland in 1944, but he transitioned to the pen, where he became one of the better relief arms in the league.

In 1947, he pitched 92 innings for Cleveland, with a 3.03 ERA and 115 ERA+. He led the league in games (58) and saves (17). In 1948, he pitched 79.2 Innings for Cleveland, with a 2.60 ERA and 157 ERA+.

Despite his great regular season numbers, he only made one appearance in the 1948 World Series. He came in relief during game five while Boston was up 6-5. He faced one batter, Marv Rickert, who hit a two RBI single.

Klieman stuck around for a couple more seasons, but 1948 was his last really effective campaign, and he retired following the 1951 season.
