Garrett McCain was drafted by the Tigers in the 10th round of the 2017 draft out of Oklahoma State University.
An outfielder, he had a pretty amazing junior season, hitting .388/.491/.549 with 4 HR. Anyone who knows me knows that I have an unhealthy fascination with high on-base percentage guys…so McCain is a guy I would have went crazy for if Oklahoma would have come through Hawaii.
As a pro he hit .259/.341/.347 in Low-A this season, with 3 HR and 20 walks/41 K’s. He was a mid-season All-Star in the NYPL.
He is clearly a strong hitter, though maybe not a ton of power. But that should be fine as long as he keeps making contact and fields well.
