Kolby Allard signed a minor league contract with the Cleveland Guardians this past February. Allard was not great in 2024. He bounced between the Phillies and their AAA club, and pitched to a roughly 5.00 ERA at both stops. Rough. But Cleveland has a reputation for finding pitching diamonds in the rough, so this was a good gamble. It’s worth remembering that Allard was once considered a great pitching prospect; he was the 14th overall pick in the 2015 draft, and from 2016 to 2019, he was considered a Top 75 prospect in the game.

Is it working out? Probably too soon to tell. Over 12 innings of relief, Allard has allowed 8 hits, hasn’t walked anyone, though he has only three strikeouts. I hope he keeps it up.
