Autograph Round-Up! January 1st, 2019

Some new stuff that has come in over the last couple weeks.

  • Alex Bregman 2017 Gypsy Queen – Very nice looking card of a player who is already looking like he will be one of the best players in the game come 2019. Last season he hit .286/.394/.532 with 31 HR, earning him his first All-Star selection. He finished 5th in MVP voting. The best part he will only be 25 come next season.
  • Wade Boggs, 1990 Bowman – Bought this from a guy that is selling off a signed set. This is the fourth or fifth card I have gotten from him. I only paid a couple dollars for this, which is not bad for a player who was a 12-time All-Star, eight-time Silver Slugger, won five batting titles and was a first ballot Hall of Fame selection. Plus he guest starred on both “Psych” and “Always Sunny in Philadelphia”…
  • Mitch Haniger, 2018 National Treasure – I only have one other Haniger, that I got in-person here in Hawaii. I only got this card since it was so cheap. Its an on-card autograph on a simple design…I dig it. I was hoping the Indians would have snagged him as part of the Edwin Encarnacion trade…
  • Johan Santana, 2005 Topps Heritage – Santana had a short-ish career (only 12 seasons), but he was very good. He was a 20 game winner in 2004 and led the league in wins with 19 in 2006. Santana had four All-Star game selections, led the league in ERA and strikeouts three times, was a triple crown and Gold Glove winners…and of course he won the Cy Young in 2004 and 2006. Amazing career.
  • Jhoulys Chacin, 2009 Topps – Back in 2014 I got Chacin’s autograph after a game in Cleveland. This was not very happy to sign. I did not hold it against him too much–he was having a miserable season. I thought he was just about done after his 2016 season, but he had found a second wind since signing with the Brewers. In 2017 he went 13-10 with a 3.89 ERA/1.270 WHIP, and last season he was 15-8 with a fantastic 3.50 ERA/1.163 ERA. He was a huge part of the Brewers cinderella season. I hope he is in a better mood.
