From My Collection: Jack Hannahan, if, Cleveland Indians

I got this autograph while he was on a rehab assignment in Lake Country.

Jack Hannahan only spent two seasons in Cleveland (2011, 2012). He was signed as a free agent by the Indians, a planned stopgap until Lonnie Chisenhall was ready to take over the hot corner. Hannahan did a more than admirable job in that role, especially in 2011 when he hit .250/.331/.388 with 8 HR–good for an OPS+ of 103. He was a league average bat, but his defense was worthy of a Gold Glove. During this time one of my favorite little memes was born: when Hannahan did something impressive, one could say “there is always money in the Ba-hannahan Stand!”

It’s stupid. But I loved Arrested Development.

Unfortunately, he struggled in all aspects of his game in 2012 and the Indians let him walk. He signed with the Reds for the 2013 season.

He never really had another good season–in retrospect 2011 really was a career year–and he was out of the majors by 2015. Still, for a while, there is more than held up his side of the bargain and was a pleasure to watch. As a Cleveland fan, there is not much more we can ask for, or expect.
