From the Collection: Lonnie Chisenhall, 3b, Cleveland Indians

I always forget what a good prospect Lonnie Chisenhall was. In 2010 he was ranked the #31 overall prospect in baseball, and the next season he moved up to #25. From 2009-2011, Chisenhall was one of Cleveland’s brightest prospects, and was rated the best prospect in the organization in 2011. He had a smooth left handed swing, a little pop, and his defense was solid. Nothing too flashy, but there was no reason to think he would not man the hot corner in Cleveland for the next decade.

Chisenhall would make the majors in 2011, but would only spend eight seasons in the majors. Injures would be a theme throughout his career, hurting both his playing time and product. He certainly had his moments–his three homerun, 9 RBI game against the Texas Rangers in June 2014 is a fun one–but in the end he just could not stay on the field. Its a shame. His last year in the majors he only got 84 at-bats, but hit .321/.394/.452, so its easy to imagine what he could have been with just a little more health.
