I have been a big fan of Muncy for a while–I think the first time I wrote about him was in July 2013–so I am just thrilled that he has become a real sparkplug for the Dodgers. I like to think I liked him before he was cool.

    • Muncy was originally a 5th round pick of the A’s back in 2012.
    • In the minors, he always showed great plate discipline. The big question with him was if he would develop the power needed to stick at a corner spot.
    • In 2013, between high-A and AA, he hit .269/.378/.458 with 25 HR and 98 walks to 112 K). Great numbers.
    • He never would hit with that type of power again–at least not while in the Oakland system.
    • Spent 2015 and 2016 between AAA and the majors. Was not particularly impressive, and Oakland released him in the spring of 2017.
    • The Dodgers signed him, and he spent all of 2017 dominating AAA pitching, hitting .313/.421/.563 with 12 HR.
    • He kept up wrecking it up in AAA in 2018, and the Dodgers called him up. He is currently hitting .276/.415/.618 with 22 HR for the big league club. These numbers have him in the All-Star game conversation, though it looks like he is going to come up a little short.
