I wrote to Michael Madsen in 2006. At the time he was one of the A’s top-30 prospects.

  • He was drafted out of Ohio State in the 21st round of the 2005 draft
  • He had a very nice pro debut in 2005, going 6-1 with a 1.69 ERA/0.875 WHIP in Low-A

He did not have amazing tools, but he was a polished college pitcher who projected as a #4 or #5 starter. He struggled in 2006, but in 2007 put up a fantastic season, even getting some time in AAA.

  • He went 11-5 with a 3.84 ERA/1.293 WHIP over 147.2 innings. He only allowed 126 hits and stuck out 129. He did issue 65 walks.

He was very close to making the majors, but an arm injury in 2008 derailed his career. He would pitch sparingly in 2009 and 2010 before retiring.
