Sean Bouchard, of, Colorado Rockies

Man, baseball can be an unfair game sometimes. See: Colorado Rockies outfielder Sean Bouchard.

Sean Bouchard was having a fantastic season with AAA Albuquerque in 2022, hitting .300/.404/.635 with 20 HR and 12 stolen bases. And even with his power, he was still walking at a good rate. Never one of the organization’s top 30 prospects, the 26-year-old Bouchard, a 9th-round pick of the 2017 draft, was having a season that was hard to ignore.

In mid-June, when utility man Garrett Hampson went down with an injury, Hampson got his first call to the show. Hampson more than held his own, hitting .297/.454/.500 with 3 HR over 74 at-bats. And he didn’t let the big leagues play with his patience, as he still had 21 walks to 25 hits. A fantastic start to his MLB career.

Coming into 2023 he was pretty much a lock for the big league roster. But this spring he got hurt, and in late March it was announced that he was going to miss the first few months of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a ruptured left biceps muscle. There is a  good chance he will miss the entire season. What a bummer.
