From the Field: Brock Lundquist, of, Toronto Blue Jays

Brock Lundquist was drafted in the 6th round (189th overall) by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2017 out of Long Beach State. I got to see him play here in Hawaii, so he is clearly a favorite.

  • Coming out of college he had plus power and a smooth swing but needed work on his pitch recognition.
  • As a pro…I guess he has figured the pitch recognition thing out?
  • Between low and high-A he has hit .282/.381/.479 on the season, with 17 HR. Very solid numbers.
  • He strikes out a lot, but also has plenty of walks. On the season he is at 47 walks to 90 K’s in 355 at-bats. But with his power, its worth it.

Lundquist really should get some respect from the people that are working on the 2019 organizational prospect lists. He is hitting for power while keeping the K’s under control, which should warrant a spot in the Top 30.
