From the Field: Payton Henry, c, Milwaukee Brewers

Payton Henry is a pretty exciting young catching prospect. He was drafted in the 6th round (171st overall) by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2016 out of high school in Utah. He is a power bat and showed that tool off in Low-A when he hit .327/.380/.707 with 10 HR. What’s really exciting is that he is also a solid catcher who has the potential to develop his defense into a plus tool.

The strikeouts are a concern. In 337 at-bats he struck out 124 times to only 38 walks. But the fact that he is young and a power hitter should buy him plenty of time to sort that part of his game out.

He is not a Top 30 prospect yet. But he has an intriguing collection of tools that, if they develop, could make him one of the better catching prospects in the game.
