Just a Little Outside: Billy jo Robidoux, if, Brewers

There are 750 jobs for players on major league baseball teams. Unfortunately there are roughly 7,000 minor league players fighting for those positions. Competition is fierce and any number of variables can ruin a players chances to make it to the games highest level. This series of posts is about players who found success in baseball—if only briefly—but due to their development stalling or simply being the wrong place at the wrong time they never succeeded in the big leagues.  Each of these guys is someone that I would have chased at some point.

Billy Jo Robidoux was the 6th Round pick of the Brewers back in 1982 and would make his pro debut three seasons later.  He would spend parts of six seasons in the majors, and retire with a career .209 AVG and 65 OPS+.

When would I have gotten him?

While he did not make a ton of noise in the majors, he had some very strong minor league seasons. His 1985 with AA El Paso (.342 AVG, 1.020 OPS with 23 HR) and 1988 with AAA Denver (.292 AVG, .392 OBP, and .884 OPS) were some of my favorites.

He would retire with some impressive minor league totals: .308 AVG, .412 OBP, and .903 OPS, with 73 HR and more walks (403) than K (360).
