New Arrival: Brandon Nimmo, of, New York Mets

2016 National Treasures Brandon Nimmo

Brandon Nimmo is a really good player.

This season–his third in the big leagues and first as a full-time player–saw him hit .263/.404/.483 with 17 HR, good for an OPS+ of 150. Nimmo was a first-round pick back in 2011 and has generally been considered one of the better hitting prospects in the game for the past couple seasons, so this production should not come as a huge surprise. What really exciting is that he is only 25 and will only be getting better.

The Indians and Mets have been talking trade over the last week, with the focus on Tribe catcher Yan Gomes being shipped to the Mets. One of the names getting tossed around to come back to Cleveland in Nimmo. I kind of doubt that will happen unless the Indians sweeten the package or it becomes a multi-player deal.

Still…I would be thrilled to see Nimmo in an Indians uniform. I love guys with high OBP and Nimmo’s was second only to Joey Votto this past season in that category. Plus he is cheap! The Mets have four more years of control on Nimmo and next season he will only cost 600K.

Considering the Indians are both out of money and have an outfield manned by AAA players…he would be a pretty perfect fit.
