New Arrival: Carl Pavano, sp, Cleveland Indians

Carl Pavano signed card

Pitcher Carl Pavano was ranked one of the Top 10 prospects in baseball coming into the 1998 season. While he would never quite live up to that lofty billing, he did have some very nice seasons during his 14-year career.

Pavano’s best season was easily 2004 with the Marlins when he went 18-8 a 3.00 ERA/137 ERA+. He was selected to his only All-Star team and finished #8 in NL Cy Young voting. Lucky for him, that season was also his last before free agency, and he would go on to sign a $39.95 million, four-year contract with the Yankees.

  • That would be a contract the Yankees would come to regret, as they would get roughly 145 innings and nine wins out of him for that investment.

Pavano would have a nice late-career resurgence. Following a rough 2009 season, Pavano would go 17-11 with a 3.75 ERA/109 ERA+ with the Twins. It would be his last effect season before retiring in 2013.
