New Arrival: Catfish Hunter, p, Oakland Athletics

<a rel=

Jim “Catfish” Hunter was a very good pitcher. He did not have a super-long career, but it was still a fantastic one:

  • Career record of 224-166 with a 3.26 ERA/104 ERA+
  • Eight-time All-Star
  • 1974 American League Cy Young
  • He would win five World Series–three with the Athletics and two with the Yankees.

Hunter pitcher 250+ innings from 1970-1976–to include 328 innings in 1975. Insane. Kind of explains why he fell off so fast starting in 1976-1977. That is just…too many innings. A different time.

He is probably best remembered for his time in New York, but I will always remember him as part of those powerhouse early-70’s Oakland rotation along with Vida Blue and Ken Holtzman.
