New Arrival: Gavin Williams, sp, Cleveland Guardians
I try to knock out Cleveland draft picks as soon as I can, that way I get it out of my system and I can enjoy them as they advance through the minors. It’s nice when one of these players has a nice on-card autograph, which is the case with SP Gavin Williams.
Gavin Willams was Cleveland’s first-round pick this past season, going 23rd overall out of East Carolina. He opened the season with High-A Lake County, and over 4 IP struck out six and allowed zero hits and only two walks. Not a bad start to his professional career. There is a reason that Williams ranked one of the Guardian’s top prospects before even throwing a pitch for the organization.
I don’t love the Elite Extra Edition cards, but this design is not too gaudy and I can’t complain about an on-card autograph. So I am more than happy to keep this as a placeholder until I can get something nicer.
