Since 2022, Spender Strider has been one of the best pitchers in baseball. As a rookie in 2022, Strider went 11-5 with a 154 ERA+ and finished 2nd in NL ROY voting. He broke out in 2023, going 20-5, 115 ERA+ season, leading the league in wins (20), strikeouts (281), and FIP (2.85). He was selected to his first All-Star team. It is a testament to how good NL pitching was in 2024 that he finished 4th in NL Cy Young voting–being Blake Snell, Logan Webb, and Zac Gallen.

I guess Strider going down with Tommy John surgery should have been expected. It’s almost a rite of passage now for Major League pitchers. The Braves had a strong rotation and should be able to survive without him, but you never want to lose a legit 20-game winner.
