Today there was a scrimmage between prep players from Oahu and the Big Island. It was a low-eye event at Central Oahu park, so the fact that I had to drive like 10 minutes to get there was nice. And it only took me about 20 minutes to get the player that I wanted, Punahou infielder Nolan Souza.
Back in 2018, I went to a High School showcase here in Hawaii. It was a small event, and I just snagged the autographs of the players who were on their way to a Division One school. Wyatt Young, a Mid-Pacific Institute player, was committed to Pepperdine and seemed like[…]
Bobby Dalbec was drafted out of the University of Arizona in the 4th round of the 2016 draft. Arizona played Hawaii that season, which is where I was able to get this autograph. I was very happy to get it. That Arizona team was stacked with prospects, and Dalbec was[…]
This is what I wrote about Rico Garcia in March 2015: Hawaii Pacific University, on Oahu, is probably most famous for it’s one Alumni that made the Majors, Benny Agbayani. Agbayani was drafted twice, in 1992 and 1993, both times by the Angels. He had a fine major league career: .806 OPS, 39[…]
Dylan Thomas has a very good 2018 campaign with Hawaii. The 2017 Big West Conference Freshman Pitcher of the Year went 3-2 with a 1.85 ERA. He allowed only 27 hits over 39 innings, striking out 43 and only walking four. He has an opponent batting average of only .200.[…]
This is a neat one. He is a local kid. Went to Punahou High School here in Hawaii. Drafted out of high school–the 25th round of the 2014 draft by the Indians–but decided to instead go to college at Oregon State. He was a great hitter at Oregon State, and[…]
I got this autograph two years ago when Ohtani was in Honolulu for a Nippon League event. At the time there was a lot of buzz about him coming to the majors, and it seemed like only a matter of time before he came to play in the states. Glad[…]
With Jackson Rees, Dominic DeMiero and Neil Uskali the 2018 Hawaii team has one of the most talented rotations in the Big West. This past Friday I was able to grab Neil Uskali’s autograph after the game. Uskali spent two seasons playing at Cuesta College, a community college in San[…]
